The Hermitage, Boosterthon Spring Sprint, and Famous Tennesseans!

What a FABULOUS last few weeks we have had in 4th grade!!  Right before Spring Break, we went on an terrific field trip to The Hermitage, Home of Andrew Jackson!  We wen t on his birthday, so we got to see lots of interesting demonstrations, a wreath laying on his tomb, and touring the house.  It was wonderful and the students behaved beautifully!  A few pictures are posted below!   Then we had a restful week of Spring Break.
When we returned to school, we started our next fundraiser, Boosterthon Spring Sprint!  This is where students get pledges from friends and family to run laps at our Spring Sprint. Every day yhere is a challenge given to the students.  We won the challenge on Thursday night and got to go on a secret mission with the Boosterthon team!  Be looking for the next challenge! We want to get those pledges!  You can pledge per lap or pledge one flat sum.  This money will help make improvements to our school.  Spring Sprint will be on Friday, April 5.  It will be a half day dismissal.  We would love to have any and all parents at Spring Sprint to mark laps and cheer on the students!
On Thursday night, students presented their Famous Tennessean Oral Reports.  They were AMAZING!  I was extremely proud of every student and the hard work that each one put into their report.  I learned so much and I know the students did too!  A few pictures are posted below.
This week we will be preparing for Achievement tests by practicing and reviewing facts, going over testing strategies, and getting our minds set for testing.  Achievement tests will be from Tuesday, April 9 to Friday, April 12.  Please make sure your child is well rested, has had a nutritious breakfast, is prepared for the day, and is on time.  We start tests every day by 8:00 a.m.

4th 9 Weeks?? How Could This Be???

I cannot believe that we have started the 4th nine weeks!  The last nine weeks of school!  Time has FLOWN by and I am not ready to let go of my sweet little blessings!  I guess that I will have to let my 15 Eagles get ready to fly on to 5th grade!  4th nine weeks is a BUSY, BUSY time!  Fasten your seat belts, because March, April, and May will be FILLED with activities, assignments, and programs!
The students have done a FANTASTIC job with adding and subtracting fractions.  This is a concept that they took hold of and CRUSHED it!   I am so proud of each of them.   I love to watch my sweet students take a new concept with confidence and continue to grow.  The "light bulb" moments are my favorite!
Famous Tennessean Oral Presentations are coming up!   They will be on Thursday, March 28,  at 6:00 p.m. in the Administrative Dining Room.  Your child should be doing research, writing his/her speech, and preparing his/her costume at home.  Remember, the speech must be 3-5 minutes long.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask me!
Here are some important dates coming up in March and April:

Hello, March!

Happy March 1st!   I hope that everyone has had a great week!  We have been busy learning about adding and subtracting fractions, commas, and finishing our "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" book unit.  Can you believe we are done with the 3rd nine weeks?!  I am not ready to say goodbye to my sweet 15 blessings in one more nine weeks period.  Report Cards will be sent home on Friday, March 8.  Be on the lookout.  Also, please encourage your child to finish his/her 4th grade year strong! Sometimes, students can fall into the habit of dazing out and not doing their best.  Please help me promote attention, good study habits, and hard work.
This week we have also been working on our Multicultural day program.  The 4th and 5th grade students will be singing a sweet song.  I have sent home the words to the song with your child.  Be looking for more information about the Multicultural day soon.  Remember, it is Thursday, March 14.
On Friday, March 15 (the day before Spring Break!), we will have a field trip to The Hermitage, Home of Andrew Jackson.  This is his birthday, so it will be very busy.  I would welcome and love any parent help on this field trip.  I will send an e-mail early next week to find out what parents would like to join us!
Just a reminder.... Famous Tennessean Oral Reports will be on Thursday, March 28 at 6:00 p.m. in the Administrative dining Room.   Please be working on presentations, research, and costumes!  The oral presentations must be 3-5 minutes long!
   Have a terrific week!
