A 4 Day Week!

I hope that everyone had a FANTASTIC Monday off for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. I pray it was filled with rest and relaxation. Because of our 4 day week,  the students kept saying, "What day is it?"  We were all laughing to figure out which specials to go to and what our schedule was for the day.
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the Parent Meeting about Tennessee Projects.  I hope that it was helpful and resourceful.  If you were not able to attend, don't worry!  I will make sure I send home another packet of Tennessee project information.  Remember, don't be shy to ask me any questions you may have about the projects.  On Monday, January 28,  I will send home the sheet where students will put down their 3 choice for Famous Tennesseans.  Please discuss the possible choices over the weekend.  The paper will be due on Tuesday, January 29.  Your child will find out his/her Famous Tennessean and the topic for his/her Tennessee Diorama.

"Only Love Can Do That..."

Happy Friday!!  I hope everyone is staying warm and dry!  We have had a FANTASTIC week!  This week, we spent our Reading time studying Martin Luther King, Jr.  We read various books, listened to/watched some of the "I Have a Dream Speech", and focused on the wonderful influences he made on this world.  We looked at various quotes from Martin Luther King, Jr.  One of the quotes we discussed was, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that."  We discussed various ways to show love, kindness, and compassion to others.  We also focused on the fact that Martin Luther King, Jr. was a regular kid and man... just like them.  I wanted to reinforce the fact that they can make BIG differences and impacts on our world.  I cannot wait to see how my 15 blessings will be GREAT LEADERS in this world!  Below are some pictures of various art activities we did during our study of Martin Luther King, Jr.  I pray we may continue to seek peace, love, and compassion.
There are a few upcoming dates that you need to be aware of:

Second Semester is in Full Swing!

Welcome back!  We have hit the ground running in the second semester.  We have reviewed past concepts and started new ones!  The students are handling it like champs and I am so proud of them.  We have learned new vocabulary, studied factors and multiples, and can label the layers of the Earth!  Be prepared.  As newer concepts are being introduced, you might see more frustration because of difficulty.  You also might see more homework because so much class time is spent learning and reviewing new concepts.
Tennessee projects will soon be approaching!  There will be a Informational Parent Meeting on Thursday, January 24, at 6:00 p.m. in my classroom.  There I will explain the 3 main projects, answer any questions, and give you some examples.   Please try your best to attend.  If you are not able to attend, I will be sending home a packet with all the information and rubrics.
We made 'snow' today with our book buddies!  It was fun to talk about what we like to do in the snow, play in the "snow", and interact with our sweet book buddies.  Below is a picture of one of the groups!
If you are planning to order a class picture, you amy visit Tucker photography, find the class pictures, and order it online.  Here is the web address:  https://tuckerphotography.shootproof.com/gallery/7191078/home
     Have a terrific weekend!

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year!  It is 2019!  How is the school year half way over??!  I told my sweet blessings that they are now closer to 5th grade than they are to 4th grade!  CRAZY THOUGHTS!!   As you know, work will get more challenging because new concepts are being introduced and students must be prepared for 5th grade.  All that being said, I know that the students will attack the new concepts, conquer them, and come out victorious!  In addition to new ideas and concepts, we will be working on cursive handwriting also.
At the beginning of 2019, we welcomed in a new student!  His name is Max.  He has come in and fit in perfectly.  Please make sure you welcome Max and his family to EHCS .  We love when our school family grows!
We have a few upcoming important dates for the month of January.  They are:

  • January 4- Report Cards are sent out\
  • January 10- Family Chapel
  • January 21- NO SCHOOL (In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day)
  • January 24- There will be a 6:00 p.m. meeting in my classroom to discuss, explain, and give example of the 3 major Tennessee projects that will be required of your student this semester.  PLEASE try to attend this meeting!
I am so thankful for you and your student.  As the school year continues, please know what an extreme blessing your family is to EHCS.  Thank you for the sacrifice and blessing you give to EHCS!  You are appreciated!
